Cupid’s Day Off PDF Afdrukken E-mail

Ali Ryan-Plasil
Paul Revere Middle School
Los Angeles

It's Cupid’s day off,

And in his place,

Is a Cupid with the same face

But a different mission, a different cause

To save humanity and all its flaws,

He’ll stop the war, he’ll give the world peace

He’ll end world hunger, so everyone has a piece

He’s another Ghandi with a bigger cause

His mission to save the hands and paws

Of everyone who loves this earth

And wants its beauty preserved

So on Valentine’s Day

He’ll be there

Giving money to the poor

Helping heat the sores

That all of us humans bring

The sub for cupid will be waiting

To help everyone, big and small

On a real Valentine- Cupid’s day off

Parochial PDF Afdrukken E-mail

Peter V. Dugan

The faithful flock to the cathedrals,

churches and chapels, book stores,

cafes and schools, take their seats,

fill the pews, listen and recite

            "The Word . . ."

Outside on the street those starving

for faith congregate as heretics

and apostates shout out blasphemy,

"Poetry is dead!"

while true believers retort,

"There is resurrection!"

But, everyday agnostics and atheists

pass by, deaf to the debate, rapped-up

by the incessant rhythm and rhyme

of a pop-culture sublime that blurs

the line between art and entertainment.

They are blind to the figured wheel

that rolls down the road, through

the meadow and out into the wasteland

over the decayed stone wall where

an old black hearse without gilt

or polish lies buried in the high grass

next to a red wheelbarrow.

At night, you can hear the howl

of the wind bellow and echo

through coffee shops, poetry vaults

and library basements.

Here converts, novices and deacons

still toil down in the catacombs

creating poems from old poets' bones

Language becomes image,

The Word is among us.

We bear witness to it here.

One Day to Do Something PDF Afdrukken E-mail

Sharon Hope

Valentine's Day is typically for you
to tell those you love that you love them
and vice versa.

How about sharing some of that with strangers?
Take an extra couple of minutes and collect the carts
in the parking lot scattered all over and put them
in the cart corrals.  Ask your cashier how
SHE is doing.  Tell an elderly woman she looks nice.

Ask an older man if he is a veteran and if so, thank him
and shake his hand.   It takes only a moment to touch a heart,
brighten a day, make someone feel special.

Everyone deserves to be loved on Valentine's Day,
so let's spread it around a little.

Valentine Poem PDF Afdrukken E-mail

Valentine's Day

What does it mean to you?

Mushy cards, chocolates, roses

But what if we could change

That day to another one

A day of peace, happiness

Where we acknowledge the people

Who matter, who are suffering

And make a difference

Not only in our lives, but theirs

When everybody comes together

To show that they care

Now that is showing

Love, and compassion, and hope

Where the true meaning of LOVE

Is recognized among us all

That is when love is not shown by cards, or fake I love you’s

But . .

By compassion and caring

Be aware of what you

Do this Valentine’s Day

This is your performance:

Reconnect to your own spiritual strength

Know the courage for outer situations through
inner determinations

Think on peace

Realize compassion

You are an instrument of peace playing on
threads of strength to bind the human family.

Amor es como paz
En familia,
En amistad.

Riendo,
Como una maquina
de felicidad

Amor es como
una flor

Brillante y lleno
de color.

Rojo, cafe, verde.

Amor.
Lo necesitamos
para la paz.

Love.
What a charged word.
What a personal word.
What other word could evoke such strong feelings and memories than love?
I have felt pain, sadness, joy, tears, laughter,
It has meant many things to me.
And as I look around, I see there is something special about it.
About love.
Because whenever I have tried,
I have always been able to find it.
In Myself.
In a Book that inspires me.
In Family.
In my Dad’s cooking.
In Friends.
In the eyes of a stranger.
In a soup kitchen.
In an airport.
The key is to never stop looking.

Giving PDF Afdrukken E-mail
Marcielle Brandler

In very the act of giving, we receive.
There is built into this process, something fabulous, that we, as givers
receive, that we, as givers, create. How is this possible? you may ask.

First, our memory of the good deed is recorded in our minds and all our cells.
It feels good to know that we have done good. The joy of giving, and knowing we
have helped another, is a beautiful truth that we have created.

Even more powerful, is when we give without expectation of any reward or
thanks. This makes our gift more powerful in the spiritual realm. This makes us
more powerful.

Second, giving in secret connects us to a higher spiritual law of return. If we
boast about or tell others what we have done, we disburse its energy, and in a
way, we already have reaped the reward for our egos. But, when we remain
anonymous, we build up our spiritual magnetism.

By giving freely, and expecting nothing in return, we plug into the great wave
circulation, like a lamp plugs into the wall, which is connected to the dam,
where huge and powerful electrical energy awaits our command. We open the
connection to all that power.

We have opened ourselves to receive more, because we have emptied out what was
there, creating a vacuum, and now we have room for more magic to enter.
Remember, “Nature abhors a vacuum.”
Now that the cup is empty, it can receive more of what we desire.

This is not about clinging and expecting. It is about releasing and allowing.
This is the law of attraction. We create beauty, put it out to others, and more
beauty is attracted to us. We have magnified ourselves, by magnifying others.

Isn’t it beautiful? Aren’t we beautiful?
