Peace Ruined Our Game |
|
Becky Mate
Peace ruined our game when the treaty was signed.
We pulled out our troops and you pulled out yours.
Peace gave us surplus of stashes of weapons,
Now piles of useless metal and scrap.
Peace with its treaties constricted our borders
Which touch upon yours; your land won't be ours.
Peace took away the fact we are separate
And joined us with bonds of commerce and friendship.
Peace having cancelled our displays of strength,
Like tigers declawed, we can't show our courage.
Peace drained us of passion for our cause of religion
And left us confused about God's/Allah's will.
Peace made us grieve for our soldiers now fallen
Their glory stripped from them as they died in vain.
Peace made us feel stupid, useless, inhuman
Like a uniformed team outside the closed stadium.
But peace made us see where to take our new fight,
A new enemy and new wrongs to right.
We were fed up with war.

The Gift of Empathy |
|
Marshall Rosenberg
I want to give you the gift of empathy
And to rid myself of lifeless thought limiting what I see
It's taken me a while but I've come to see at last
How much I miss the present with eyes fogged by the past
So if I take some time before I answer you
I am clearing away my projections so your divinity can come through

We All Have Roads that Cross |
|
|
Ali
Marlborough High School
Los Angeles
Roaming the streets of Skid Row
I await danger and uneasiness
Urine saturated garbage
Smoke misted molesters
For all those people that tell me the high and homeless are bad
And will damage me any chance they get
But I feel safefor some reason
I feel as though I know them
Just because they don't have a home
Just because I live in bounty
We all have roads that cross
I was talking to a man
Who lived a life the way mine has been set out to be
He got a college diploma and worked a wealth inducing job
His life took a u-turn as he became an alcoholic
But he didn't want his journey of life to end
He is on the path to sobriety
And gives the light to the end of the tunnel
For all those people that you think are different
Or better or worse than you
You'll see yourself in everyone
Because we all have roads that cross

This Little Bird |
|
Allison Crowe
This little bird
has a wander lust
Yes, I am going to see everything
I'm going to feel
I'm going to understand
something here
something good
In a land in a different ocean
same idea, but different sea
just to have you
lying next to me
Oh, I'll be dancing in the fire
You'll be laughing at the stars
We'll be shouting from the buildings
We'll be waving at the cars
that pass us by as we stand here
as time moves around us
we are steady in this moment
no, time doesn't seem to phase us at all
This little bird's
flying East
for the Winter
And you may think that
my navigational equipment
is out of order
but I know
exactly what I'm doing
and yes I know
exactly where I'm going
To a corner in the East
after travelling so far
just to be with you
just to be where you are
I'll be dancing in the fire
You'll be laughing at the stars
We'll be shouting from the buildings
We'll be waving at the cars
that pass us as we stand here
as time moves around us
we are steady in this moment
No, time doesn't seem to move us at all
from where we are
We are standing in this moment
no, time
This little bird's
gonna see
the good life has to offer
and how you can give your heart
and still feel free
