Peace
How very heavy such a small word can be
So many ways to understand it.
No war, friendship, serenity, harmony.
But more than that
It is the goal of an entire universe.
How could it be when we find ourselves so torn apart.
The answer
More than one version of what peace really means.
Endless movements of life on this planet
Doesn't our true diversity lie in how our idea of values differ?
The challenge to our world
Embracing the differences in what we hold true.
Perhaps the link in the chain, the tie that could bind
Is you.

Marcielle Brandler, Pasadena As I sit beneath Four giant fig Trees, branches Entwined. I think of Eve, and of the four Directions, of earth, Air, fire, water. Of this Catholic image Of Mary who treads On the head of The Serpent. I think Of the Serpent's Wisdom for the goddess, Durga in her pre-Christian Incarnation, of Kali who is Woman's power when Men cannot stop Themselves from Destroying, from war. I think of all the holidays, Kwanzaa for some, Christmas for others, Ramadan for others, Chanukah for yet others. I think of how all these Traditions happen near The equinox of the Pagan Calendar and how we All share a common bond We are human. We are Brothers and sisters sharing A beautiful green, water- Filled planet. Is this the Only time to say Good will. Good will and Peace on Earth to all Of Humankind? Whom should I say is not My brother, my sister My child, my grandparent? To you, my relatives My beloved humankind, Peace and good will. |

Letter to St. Valentine |
|
Sophia La Toa

Dear St Valentine
Your martyrdom resounds
Through the centuries
An impassioned heart
Guilty only of love
How fiery your flame
Defying laws of the land
A beacon of freedom
To the human spirit
Enslaved by evil tyranny
In this capsule of time
We celebrate your gift
However vaguely remembered
By romantics and poets
Your love essence remains
Yet we only know it now
As a dress rehearsal
For our sentient nature
Clothed in superficial colours
Of glamour and illusion
But a higher love beckons
One we will yet experience
On all planes consciously
The magnet of the heart
Will bless the sacred union
Even as I write
The supreme Lord of Love
Prepares His second coming
We await in awe the ultimate impact
Of unconditional love fulfilled
Then every day will be
A celebration of Love
And we will drink deeply
Joyfully yours truly
St Valentine's Day xxxxx

The Green Heart |

Valentine's Day
Is a strange holiday
Red and pink hearts
Always play their parts
But not this year
On February 14, 2008
I'm going green
Not red
My Valentine will receive
Nothing close to red
Maybe a tree
With little green hearts
And a beautiful card
On recycled paper
I will not waste
Our resources
Of value
Trees
Have value
Do not waste them
Keep them living
By going green
Not red
